RankWyz – 10 Million Posts and Growing Strong

10mils

Yesterday we had a small celebration at RankWyz for the event we didn’t even dreamed about, when we launched the service beginning of the summer of last year.

I remember how exciting it was when we finally released service to the public offering 100 and 200 blogs packages with 250 posts / day limit. In just two months we had over 11,000 blogs in the system and let me tell you – it felt incredible.  Below our stats we shared with our users at the beginning of the August.

stats1

Little we knew what would it take to scale it up to the level where we are now, but persistence pays – from the system that required users to upload own scraped content and make posts to 12 web2 sites (most by email) we went all the way to what RankWyz is now – auto syndication, full text rss, translation, multiple 3rd party services, multi-tier linking, advanced scheduling and drip feeding, unlimited blogs, account store and many more other features allowing our users experience new level of outsourcing without compromising own seo strategy.

And this is where RankWyz now – over 300,000 blogs and over 10 million successful posts.

Something to be really proud of and a great moment to express how grateful we are to our users. Many of you stayed with us through hard times and waited for us to deal with growth problems, spent your own time sending us feedback and suggestions for improvements. We definitely would not be where we are now without our users.

Thank you all and let me assure you, that we are not planning to stop improvements and innovations any time soon. We are completely dedicated to what we do and absolutely committed to continue increasing value of services we provide for our members.

Auto Upload Images on Shared Hosting

While is so tempting to simply scrape and use images, we have always advising our users, especially for the Tier 1 blogs, go extra step – download images, resize them and upload on personal image hosting account and avoid leaving a footprint by using “hotlinked” images. Google indexes images as well as a content and once bot arrives at your page it knows if it seen images already before. We all know that, but let’s face it – we don’t have that time and often compromise…

Today we have rolled out new feature, that would allow our users upload images on image hosting site automatically with absolutely no extra effort, not only you will avoid using hotlinked images, but also rankwyz will reupload image not once, but every time you create a post.

So if you have just one single image and are making post to hundred blogs – you will not have all 100 post reusing same image and potentially leave a footprint, but every post will have own, not used by anyone else image.

Retrieving Full Text From RSS

Today we uploaded a new update, that will greatly enhance content option available to our users.
Now in addition with retrieving content directly from RSS feed we added option to pull full article content from the page referenced in RSS feed. This can be used in mimicking massive content syndication from your site with proper attribution link pointing back to your site or to retrieve relevant content from popular sites.

Switching to Using Pre-Set Articles

From the very beginning of our service one of the main concept was that we generated actual article right at the moment when it was about to be posted. This approach gives benefit of changing content pretty much on the fly – change configuration, images, links, etc and very next post will reflect changes.
Overtime tough our logic for article generation is getting more complex (site map extraction, RSS parsing, translation and more) and thus more time and resource consuming. Add to that our growing posting volume (over 4k/hour at the peak) and you see the problem.
Over the last week we made changes in the system that added extra step in our posting process

  1. Create Scheduled Posts
  2. Create Article to be Posted and Assign to each post <== New Step
  3. Make a Post

Now you will be able to see what exactly is going to be posted before hands, but as a drawback any changes in submission (configuration, links, images, etc) will not have effect to already scheduled posts.
!!! If you have submission posting and made some changes in configuration, now you need to stop submission first (that will delete all scheduled posts) and start it again.

Step 1 – Submission Started, Scheduled Posts Created

Step 2 – after a short period, articles generated and attached to each post

Step 3. You can preview what exactly will be posted

Easy Way to Delay Link Posting

There are many benefits of posting links to the blog only after initial period – blog will have much greater chance of surviving and link has higher authority when posted to already indexed blog.

We always recommended this approach ours users, but up until now it required an several steps to set up delayed link posting.

Today we added new option that allows to delay link posting until blog reached specified number of posts.

To setup link posting delay, edit submission, go to “links” tab and update “Add Links After X initial posts” option. For example if you set it to 10, system will not include links for the first 10 posts for each blog and only after wills start adding links.
