Avoid Duplicate Content Penalties with Attribution Links

Attribution link is an absolute legitimate way of copying somebody’s content, in part or in full, and avoiding duplication penalties from search engine, by basically leaving backlink back to your original source. We’re all striving to have as unique content as possible, but if you think, there are lots of sites that do absolutely nothing but copy, aggregate somebody else’s content and group it and slightly massage and just reformatting, adding images. And they have no problem with this content because they use attribution link pointing back to original source. In fact there are very high portals, news portals for the majority of the pages accept a few home pages are using syndicated content.

For this demo I’ll be using a submission that is created using full text from RSS with syndicated images. And if I click preview, you can see it’s a small snippet of the text or with image. And if we post it as is, it’s without a doubt what would be considered a duplicate content because it’s taking without any modification from other side. One of the very popular solution to this would be using spinning to keep uniqueness of the content on our site and in the same time avoid  duplication content penalty. I go to edit submission, click “options”, and I enable attribution link. By default it’s populated with the content and by definitely to avoid a footprint you’ll need to, you better use your own content. It also supports spintax and different place holders that will dynamically pull data from RSS item. So I click preview and now it’s not anymore duplicate content, it is a syndication –  content syndication with proper attribution link pointing back to original source.

What other options we have? We have placeholders for URL, for title and for anchor. URL will build naked link pointing the link to the original source. Title will be using a page title, and anchor will be creating link with using title for the anchor. Let’s say one of the variation would be to read more about title visit URL. And we have page title and we have attribution link, and those are just examples. Visit anchor to read more from the other. So you can see there is a link back with title keyword, title as a keyword anchor. Another option we have is to have the attribution link be follow or nofollow, and this will be depending on scenario how to use attribution link. And we can talk about scenario’s – let’s say one of the popular use for the future would be of using, creating massive syndication of your content across hundreds of blogs managed with RankWyz.

Let’s say you have 500 blogs with the RankWyz and they are all positing articles relevant to your site. You can post articles with links to your site, but another option would be to just simply grabbing your content from your site and adding attribution link and drip feed that throughout multiple days, completely mimicking syndication of your content. All syndication of your content across hundreds of blocks. Very effective technique proved to working and creating high quality backlinks to your main site. And obviously in this case the content will be follow. Another option would be using somebody else’s content and instead of somehow modifying the content spinning so you can leave it as is, but add an attribution link pointing back to the original article to avoid the duplication penalty. And in this case what I’ll need to give authority to this link so we’ll make it nofollow. But in this case,  we haverelevant content and inject the body of the article we add our own links pointing to our own site. So this was a different scenario, we’ll take somebody else’s content, give it an attribution, and it’s no follow and in the body of the content, and edit our own links. Once again this is, this video for using attribution links we have this enabled for RSS content source, it also can be used with a press release content source, so we’re basically taking source of the press release and in the same time as multiple media sites are picking up your press release, you can multiply effect by syndicating your press release across hundreds of your web 2 blogs managed with RankWyz.

Auto Upload Images on Shared Hosting

While is so tempting to simply scrape and use images, we have always advising our users, especially for the Tier 1 blogs, go extra step – download images, resize them and upload on personal image hosting account and avoid leaving a footprint by using “hotlinked” images. Google indexes images as well as a content and once bot arrives at your page it knows if it seen images already before. We all know that, but let’s face it – we don’t have that time and often compromise…

Today we have rolled out new feature, that would allow our users upload images on image hosting site automatically with absolutely no extra effort, not only you will avoid using hotlinked images, but also rankwyz will reupload image not once, but every time you create a post.

So if you have just one single image and are making post to hundred blogs – you will not have all 100 post reusing same image and potentially leave a footprint, but every post will have own, not used by anyone else image.

Switching to Using Pre-Set Articles

From the very beginning of our service one of the main concept was that we generated actual article right at the moment when it was about to be posted. This approach gives benefit of changing content pretty much on the fly – change configuration, images, links, etc and very next post will reflect changes.
Overtime tough our logic for article generation is getting more complex (site map extraction, RSS parsing, translation and more) and thus more time and resource consuming. Add to that our growing posting volume (over 4k/hour at the peak) and you see the problem.
Over the last week we made changes in the system that added extra step in our posting process

  1. Create Scheduled Posts
  2. Create Article to be Posted and Assign to each post <== New Step
  3. Make a Post

Now you will be able to see what exactly is going to be posted before hands, but as a drawback any changes in submission (configuration, links, images, etc) will not have effect to already scheduled posts.
!!! If you have submission posting and made some changes in configuration, now you need to stop submission first (that will delete all scheduled posts) and start it again.

Step 1 – Submission Started, Scheduled Posts Created

preset01

Step 2 – after a short period, articles generated and attached to each post

preset02

Step 3. You can preview what exactly will be posted
